If you look in any jewellers the choice of wedding rings can seem bewildering.

There are sets of matching wedding rings made from almost any precious metal and can be as elaborate or simple as your heart desires.

However, there is no written rule that states that the bride and groom should have matching wedding rings.

Many brides fail to consider whether their wedding rings will actually be complimented by their engagement rings. For example, I chose a white gold engagement ring so there is no point me even looking at the traditional yellow gold wedding rings as they will just not be suitable.

My partner, on the other hand, prefers yellow gold wedding rings. So, we decided that we were not going to have matching wedding rings after all and both of us began looking at very different colours and styles of wedding rings.

If are are sentimental then your wedding rings can be made for you from an older piece of gold or silver. This can be a good idea if jewelry has been left to you by a relative. Having it made into your wedding rings is a nice way of "keeping them with you".

Platinum wedding rings are becoming increasingly popular too which adds to the amount of choice available.

More men are choosing wedding rings that have decorated edges or even small gemstones inlaid in them with the plain yellow gold band of traditional wedding rings becoming less of a popular choice.

At the end of the day, you are intending to wear your wedding rings for the rest of your life so it makes sense to choose ones that you are comfortable wearing and not simply because they match.
